Unusual Cable. S-video to two component video yellow and white. does anyone know what this would be for?
-
I found a s-video cable that splits from an s-video on one end to two Rca video ends like on vcr's and dvd players, one is white and one is yellow. has anyone ever heard of this kind of cord before or know what it could be for. also can you find an adapter for this to make it s-video again?

Answer:
It might be from an old camcorder. Video+mono audio out to composite video (yellow) and mono audio (white cable). It's probably not a real s-video signal either, just uses the connector because it was smaller than putting in a couple of RCA-out jacks on the camera.

The yellow and white cords are for audio. Unlike HDMI - s-video only transmit image signals, the yellow and white contain the sound.

Can I have it? j/k I would use that cable to send video from my computer, which has to S-vid output, to my (little bit older) TV, which only has the component cables. It doesn't include the red cable because that's for audio signals, and S-video only conveys video signals - you'd need a separate cord for audio. It's probably not worth it to find an adapter. Just get a regular S-video cord, so you don't risk signal loss.

It's used as a splitter/converter. Say you have a laptop that only has an S-video connection and you want to hook to both a tv and a camcorder that only have standard rca connections.... As for the adapter, just save yourself the headache and get a new S-video cable.

This is used by some camcorders. It is not a true s-video cable, but can carry video and mono audio from the camcorder to a VCR or other device. You don't need any adapter, s-video cables are dirty cheap, but keep the cable in case you find that camcorder now...
