What is the model number of the 40-in Toshiba? If you know the model number you can download the manual on the Toshiba website under "support". All TVs have audio outputs. If you have a big home theater stereo you would go "out" the two red/white plugs on the back of the TV into red/white plugs on the stereo. But the best option is to use the small square-ish "S/PDIF" or "Toslink" plugs on both the TV and Stereo. You can buy an optical spdif cable from Target or Wal-mart. If you have a small stereo and there is no red/white "Aux In" then there may be a small 1/8" headphone jack size hole. You can buy a cable at Radio Shack or Target that goes from a red/white pair of plugs on one end into a headphone jack on the other end. Hope that gives you some ideas!
