How to connect analog surround sound system to digital tv/dvd player?

I want surround sound.can i buy just speakers and connect to dvd player or have to buy home cinema system dvd?

    If you have a DVD palyer with the audio out jacks int he back, then you should be able to do just what you've asked. BUT - check the manufacturer's web-site for a manual online to see- most have them for free if you look under "support" on their web sites. As for buying a system, if you are not a complete audio-path, then you can pick up a simple home theater system from somewhere like Wal-Mart for less then $100. Hook it up to your DVD player, and select the right setting in the menus for 5.1 output. Some of them I have purchased have had multiple inputs so I've hooked up my TV as well and enjoyed surround sound from that as well.

you cannot connect surround sound speakers directly to your dvd player. the audio outputs on your dvd player are not powered, you need a power source for your speakers, you will need a reciever

you can try any of the suggestions above. if it doesn't work, then you'll have to buy a receiver that has corresponding jacks on back. be careful that you plug the rated wattage speakers into the right jack or you'll blow (burn up) the speaker; an action for which there is no warranty. A receiver is an electronic unit that controls home theatre options, fm/am to speakers, cassette, turntable, cd/cd jukebox, and other optional equipment

If your DVD player has 5.1 speaker outputs then you can just add speakers. If it doesn't then you will need a different system. You can get just amplifiers and speakers so you shouldn't need a new DVD player, but you will need more equipment.

Yea. You can get quite powerful PC speakers now from curry's or PC world that have Jack connections for audio in and audio out. I plug my mobile phone into them as well as my laptop. I just leave the jack hanging out to connect what ever i want to it. You can plug anything into them
