Ignore the first answer which was just spam. Try looking at some equipment on amazon.com. They sell a lot of gear, and other stores sell through them, as well, so you will see a lot of gear, with a lot of user reviews. Their prices are often better than what you'd get in an actual store. The first issue is your budget. How much do you want to spend. That will affect your range of choices. Then, do you want a 5.1 system, or a 7.1 ? You could also split that difference by getting a 7.1 receiver, and a 5.1 set of speakers, with a plan to get two more speakers in the future. Generally, you will want at least $400-500 to start for a decent system. More $$$ gets you more choices and even better gear. A good choice for speakers is a Polk system, model 6750, that can be had for about $250. Add a $200 5.1 receiver, and you're good to go. Good brands include Harmon Kardon, Yamaha, Denon, and Onkyo for receivers. For speakers, Infinity, JBL and Polk are good choices. Avoid, at all costs, Sony (For both receivers and speakers) and Bose. Good hunting.
