How to connect 5.1 speaker to hd settop box?

  • I have a creative 5.1 speaker which i want to connect to Airtel HD set top box (which claims to give 7.1 Dolby output) to get 5.1 surround sound effect, not sure how to connect them details of the ports given below - Airtel HD set top box has component video output, optical S/PDIF output, HDMI output. - Creative 5.1 speaker has 3 multicolored 3.5mm input

    You can not connect your speaker to the box. You are going to need a receiver to process the 7.1 audio using HDMI cable, which is the only cable that can handle the 7.1 audio. Hope this will help you out.

When you say 5.1 then your settop box should give you a total of 6 (5 + 1) speaker connectors. Normally settop boxes wont give these speaker connectors. you need a home theatre supporting amplifier with 5.1 standard. If your Creative has 3 multicolored inputs then check the manual for what are they. May be component video inputs. It functions similar to the output from your CD/DVD player. Use the instruction manual to find exact nature. You may need to buy an amp with HDMI and support for Dolby/DTS/etc etc decoding. If you ned more correct info then give us more details about you Creative model name, etc....
