How do I make a RCA to VGA cable?

RCA to VGA won't work?

  • I bought an RCA to VGA cable so I could connect my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ60) to my TV, but it won't work. Any idea on how to make it work or something else that I need to by in order for it to work?

  • Answer:

A cable only will never work, unless you PC video card supports outputting composite video over VGA - possible, but RARE.

Is it just a cable, with no circuitry? Is your tv an old style CRT tv? a cable isn't enough in that case, since VGA runs a non-interlaced signal at a different frequency compared with a normal TV signal. If you have an LCD screen, it may be possible to run the signal through a DVI if your TV has such a socket, and if it can accept analogue signals. It all depends on your TV. edit: It could be a HD connection - you can see the various connection here, with explanation. What is the model of your TV? The S-video cable suggests that this is a std. composite connection, and a composite input on a TV will not accept the RGB signal from a std. VGA source.
