I just got LG 55", tried to connect my Bose 321 using the Optical Audio Cable directly to TV. I get no sound?

I turned off the sound from the TV as instructed also. What is the problem???

On page 20 of the Bose 321 GS owner's manual, there is a note saying, "The media center Optical connector is factory set to work with a cable or satellite box. If your Optical component is neither of those, you need to select your component in an on-screen System menu. See "Getting digital audio from a source" on page 45." If you haven't tried it yet, maybe that will work.
