How to set up ps3 with home theater system?

  • I have a sharp HDTV, a Dynex home theater system DX-HTIB, and a ps3. I have an HDMI cable connected to the ps3 and the TV. I also have an optical cable from my ps3 to my receiver and i am not getting any sound. How do i get sound?

    I just had a nightmare moving house and trying to set up of my home theatre system, PS3 and our DVD player, we too were having real trouble with sound. So I ended up calling a company here in UK and they took the time to talk me through the whole set up. Give them a go, the guy I spoke to was extremely knowledgable, and patient. Can't remember the phone number off the top of my head but the website was http://www.hifiguides.com/ Didn't even end up buying anything from them, hence I feel like I'd like to do some positive promotion as payment for their time and knowledge. You need to access the audio options menu on the PS3 and set it to output all audio to the optical cable instead of HDMI. Btw, Dynex is some really cheap Best Buy brand crap imported from China. Give it some time and you'll be tossing it in the trash.
