How to connect Samsung Series 7 TV to Onkyo TX-NR709 AV Receiver?

  • I have a Samsung Series 7 LED TV which I want to connect to a new Onkyo TX-NR709 AV Receiver. I've used HDMI to connect the TV OUT from the receiver to the HDMI 1 port on the TV. The receiver came with an FM antenna that is somewhat like a double-plug, i.e. the plug connects to the receiver & has a connection that looks like another 'TV antenna' type plug goes into the back of it. However, my TV antenna cable doesn't quite fit it. Should the TV antenna cable connect there, or should I just leave it connected to the TV & use optical out from the TV to the receiver?

  • Answer:

Your AV Receiver doesn't got a TV tuner (and so it is not capable of handling RF/Antenna signals). So you can't connect your TV antenna to the receiver (to watch the programs in TV). If you have a set-top box which got video-out (RCA, HDMI, Component, S-Video, etc), you can connect this to the receiver (to watch the programs in TV). So what you can do is to keep the antenna/cable connection to the TV as it is, then use the audio out (RCA or Optical) to receiver to amplify the sound.
