What's the best way to connect my PC to my TV?

Can someone help me setup my ps3, pc, and directv to my new tv?

  • I just bought a 32 inch 720p vizio LCD tv.. I just need help on how to hook up all my stuff. I have a ps3 which i want to connect via HDMI, a pc which i can hook up via VGA ( i think ) , and a directv receiver which i think has a coax-out from the receiver and composite cables that also go into the tv. I think i can hook up all the video to the tv, im more or less worried about the audio.. i want to have a surround sound system.. whats the cheapest/easiest/non-messy way of setting up my home theater solution.. any help appreciated

I would not hook up your directv via the coax, this is the absolute worst way to hook up the sat box. If the sat box is regular and not HD, then hook it up to the Vizio via S-video or component cables (Red, Green and Blue) and a pair of audio cables (red and white). This will give you far superior video and audio then coax. I would also suggest upgrading the sat box to one with HD and subscribe to the HD service pack 10.00/month. With all the channels Directv has on HD it is well worth the money. The sat box should have HDMI port. If wanting to go surround sound route, pick up an Onkyo 605 (300.00) or 606 (400.00) it will decode the new audio formats on Bluray, has a built in foroudija scaler (better picture quality) and you can hook up the HDMI cables to the reciever and one HDMI cable to the TV, so you can also get surround sound on all the HD channels, especially good on movie channels. Best bang for the buck but it is well worth the money and awesome sound is to buy the Onkyo reciever and spend 1,000 at SVSound.com for a 5.1 speaker setup. The subs at SVS far exceed any sub costing thousands in stores. and the speakers have enough mid range bass to blend in perfectly with the sub. And yes you can hook up the computer via VGA cable. EDIT Dante thanks for agreeing with me, but for better sound, I could never recommend a HTIB system when for a few hundred more they could get a top notch powered subwoofer and speakers that are highly rated as compared to any HTIB speakers, where sound quality is not even in the same league, hence my recommendation. The SVS speakers can also achieve a far lower mid range bass frquency than HTIB systems which normally only go down to about 150Hz and you miss out on far too much sound when the sub is crossed over at 80hz (any higher and the sub starts to pick up voices and can be easily located and you get "muddy bass". The SVS also blends in perfectly with any sub crossed over at 80hz. If your going to spend the money, might as well go for the best you can for the price. And since we are talking a 600.00 price difference in total, the OP would get a far superior system and sound going with the SVS and Onkyo as seperates.

I agree with Matt on everything but the best "bang for the buck" would be Onkyo HT-S6100, 7.1 home theater package utilizing the same receiver with speakers, sub, I-pod dock, for about $700.00
