When connecting surround sound components together which connections do you use?

Connecting sound from PS3 to surround sound?

  • I have a Playstation 3 and a plasma tv with 3 HDMI inputs and built in Tuner, along with a bose lifestyle system for my surround sound (which dosn't have hdmi connections and only one opitical connection for sound) Can i connect the ps3 to the plasma via a HDMI for audio and video then run the sound to my bose surround sound system via an optical cable?? That way i can use my only optical input of my bose to carry both the dobly digital sound for my ps3 and tv progams????

  • Answer:

Yes, as long as the TV has an optical audio output and will output a signal there even if not receiving a digital input at the time. Some sets will, some sets will only output at the optical jack while receiving a digital audio input. It would also give you the flexibility of listening through the TV speakers and when you wanted just turn the TV volume all the way down and listen through the Bose.
