• Good Day, Does any one out there own a Toshiba 50HD television set? Why? because I have one and the chip in it went at a cost of over $500 to fix. Has any one experienced this kind of problem and how long did you have the television for before the chip (or on a newer model) the lamp went out? Will this be a cost associated with owing a big screen television? Thanks.

  I have a 61inch Toshiba TV and the cost of replacing the Lamp or the chip costs more the the worth of the TV itself. So when the TV dies i would most likely buy a Plasma TV which last about 10000 to 25000 hours. The lamp and chip usually last the length of hours instructed by the company selling the TV. But of course like any other electronics they can be malfunctions. most regular warranties do cover the cost of the lamp and the chip if it is still covered. Other then that if you do not want to spend the $500 you should just go for a plasma TV now because they are almost equal to the price of a big screen TV. And even if you do fix your big screen for 500 plus labor which is bout 300 to 500 also there is no telling how long the lamp will last and the circuit board.
