Why is my DVD player picture all blue tones?
-
I have a Mitsubishi HD-TV which has 2 sets of Input connections for the red-white-yellow cables and 2 sets of Component connections for the red-green-blue cables. I have a Direct-TV DVR hooked up to Input-1 with one set of the red-white-yellow cables & S-video cable and had the DVD player hooked up to Input-2 using Red-white-yellow and it worked fine. Just purchased a Wii console which has the red-white-yellow connectors so I had to connect it to Input-2 and it works fine. So, I had to reconnect the DVD player to the Component-1 inputs. Since I was not prepared for this issue, I only had the Red-white-yellow connector cables and left them connected to the Red-white-yellow outputs on the back of the DVD player but connected them to the Component-1 inputs on the TV. The result was everything was in black and white. I next re-connected the cables on the DVD to the Component Out jacks and the result was the picture was all in blue tones. So, I stopped at Best Buy and talked to some employees there. They said I needed the red-green-blue cables or a red-white-yellow splitter adapter that would require flipping a switch everytime you used one component vs another. So, as a 1st try, I chose to purchase the red-green-blue cables but after connecting them to the appropriate jacks on the DVD player & TV I still get a picture in blue tones. Before going back & purchasing the splitter, I thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced the same problem and if there was another solution.

Answer:
Sounds like your dvd composite output jacks are wonky. Sorry bud. I got a little lost in all of the talk about switching, you do understand that the YELLOW of the Yellow-Red-White, is the actual video when it comes to YRW connections, but however, ALL THREE CABLES for the RGB setup are video cables, correct? That's why "RBG" cables are of a better quality output than the "YRW" because it's being split up into it's own specialty channels of color instead of just one cable. I fear that if you have the Red going to the Red, the Green to Green, and the Blue to Blue, and if this worked fine before with a different device, that more than it's the RGB jacks of your dvd player that's bad. Try hooking it up just the same to another tv (a friend's if need-be... make that "a close friend", haha), using the RGB cables and jacks and see if it happens on the other television just to be sure. If all else fails you can *attempt* to call the manufacturer's hotline which should be on the back of your dvd player, and... I have no idea why anyone would suggest buying equipment to watch your dvds on a component setup (yellow-red-white cables) since there's a noticable difference in clarity compared to the composites (RGB), especially now with everyone owning flat-screens, sheesh.
