What do I need to complete system?

What do I need to make a complete home audio system with Cerwin Vega V E-12?

  • Besides the two tower speakers VE-12 what do i need to make em bump ? Should i get an amplifier and reciever seperatley? or does the reciever have an amp? These speakers need 300 watts each how do i connect my ipod?

  • Answer:

They don't need 300 watts. Don't pay any attention to the speaker power rating, it's about as relevant as the color of the speaker cabinet. That's a "peak" rating anyway so it's even more useless. Actual speaker power ratings are complex and can not be expressed with a single number. Pay attention to the sensitivity, in this case 93 dB 1w/1m. You can drive these speakers with anything. The typical home speaker is about 87 dB 1w/1m so with 93 you need 1/4 the power. This is one advantage of Cerwin Vega, efficiency. They are not expensive speakers and are not exactly known for sound quality but they are efficient and don't need much power. I wouldn't get a higher end receiver for inexpensive speakers, just about anything will do for these. They don't specify if they are 4 or 8 ohm so just get a receiver that has no problem with 4 ohm just in case. Maybe a lower end HK, those seem pretty good for the money. mk

You can buy a pre-amp and an amp rated to drive your existing speakers. Or an integrated amplifier with the right rated amp. Your choice of brands like mcintosh, nad, audio research, and vacuum tube amps.
