Hooking up surround sound?

What am I missing while hooking up my surround sound?

  • I am trying to hook up my surround sound to my television. It's a Philips HTS3400 system. The surround sound works when I am watching a DVD but it does not play sound when i'm just watching normal television. I thought I had it hooked up right since it works while watching the DVD but obviously not. I've tried so many different combinations of hooking up the cords but can't figure it out. No manual, we've had the system for a long time. Please help.

You need an audio in connection to your DVD/main unit from either the cable box itself or maybe the TV (depending on how you have your TV signal feed done). If your TV has a cable in connection, and it has an audio out, you could run a audio cable from the TV to your unit. CL http://www.audio-equipment-speakers.com

Your cable box has to have a separate wire going to the surround sound receiver in order to get normal TV sound out of the speakers.
