Why doesn't my HDMI Cable work?

I just got a HD cable box, hooked up with HDMI, but my surround sound doesnt have a HDMI port and no sound?

  • I hooked up my HD tv to a HD cable box through HDMI. when i tried connected my home theatre system, it wouldnt work through the tv. More so, i cant watch my cable in surround sound, only DVD's were coming through the surround sound. The surround sound system doesnt have a HDMI, so is there anyway to get it to work.

  • Answer:

Connect optical cable from cable box to surround sound system for audio.

Hook up the HDMI from your cable box to the home theater system and connect another HDMI from the home theater to the tv. When watching tv select the source on your home theater you inputed the HDMI cable. Since you do not have HDMI on the surround sound look in the cable boc for optical or coax audio output and connect it from the box to your home theater. Again selecting that source input to hear the sound for tv. Keep in mind that not all tv program are encoded with surround sound only those programs stating Dolby Surround. You connect the HDMI directly to the tv. Hope this helps.

You can hook up rca (red and white) audio (or optical if the box and receiver have that) from the cable box to the surround receiver. If you have it hooked up to the rca (or optical) out from the tv to the receiver, you may have to go into the tvs menu and turn the audio output on or to fixed.

perhaps the channels you are watching do not broadcast in surround sound?
