Help with my projector please?

TV, DVD player, karaoke system, front projector and stereo system...? Please help!?

  • I currently have a plasma TV, a DVD player, a Comcast DVR box and a Toshiba front projector with a digital coaxial audio output. Now, the TV, DVD player and DVR box are all wired together and work fine (TV and DVR box connected via HDMI, TV and DVD player component cables). My wife wants to buy a karaoke system and I want to somehow connect my Toshiba front projector to this whole thing for the audio (either from the speakers or headphones). I also like to listen to music CDs. I understand vaguely that the karaoke thing consists of a mixer, one or two mics and two speakers. Are there other devices I will need? How do I connect all these guys together? Thanks. By the way, I was also told that karaoke speakers are different from regular speakers. How so? Also, the Toshiba front projector has a built-in DVD player of it own so the DVD player mentioned above is only used with the TV.

It depends on how much you want to spend on your karaoke system. Since you have a plasma TV, I am thinking you probably want a little more than just a basic karaoke system. Also, what are you planning to use as the source of karaoke? DVD player, CD+G player or software with a computer? You will need the following to build a good sounding system. 1. Speakers. Don't use the home speaker system they are not made to handle live performance. It can easily ruin your speakers. Look for one that can handle live performance. 2. Microphones. Most people recommend the Shure SM50 (about $99). 3. Mixer with effects. Look for one that has echo or reverb. It will make you sound much better than you realize. 4. An amplifier. (You can use a receiver but amplifier is a better choice.) There's not much karaoke made with DVD disc. Most common here are CD+G but your player has to be able to support it. You must use a player that has CD+G support if you are planning to use CD+G disc as the karaoke source. Another method is to use a laptop or desktop to play the karaoke. There are program out there that let you convert the CD+G disc you buy into mp3+G and you can play those in your computer. A laptop is more flexible since you are not limited to just mp3+G. Well you are missing some important Information on your question. So what are you using for the audio section and speakers ? The projectors speakers ? If you are using a receiver then you can plug all the audio outputs to the receiver and switch between them. Most karaoke systems are all in one with speakers, mics, and mixer. If not you will need some sort of receiver speakers combination and plug everything into that for all the audio sources. Kevin 40 years hi-end audio video specialist

You can just connect the video and audio output of the karaoke machine to a spare input on your TV. That may work fine for you but keep in mind if someone sings loudly or screams into the mic, your TV speakers may get damaged. If the karaoke system is operated carefully, you may be just fine. Professional karaoke systems use PA amplifiers and speakers. They are built to take abuse. If the karaoke system you are looking at comes with speakers, just use those.

The best thing would be to buy a Yamaha 5.1 surround sound system that includes a decoder this has small speakers but creates a powerful punch. This has 5 HDMI connectors. Also includes many ports for connecting other devices. You can connect all these to this device. I know you already have speakers. I don't know if you could just buy the decoder box. Good luck with it. Sounds like you have your hands full. :)
