What is the difference between a DVD home theater system and a regular home theater system?

I need help with my new Sony home theater system.. It has no inputs.?

  • Alright.. so our old home theater unit bit the dust so we had to replace it.. we bought a Sony Home Theater System DAV-HDX285. Setup was easy.. but wasnt paying attention until done.. it has no inputs of any kind.. So i am unable to to hook up any of our other units (dvd players, satelite, etc) to the stupid thing. Apparently it detects audio that is hooked up to your tv and plays it thru that way.. so we got the satelite working that way.. but i cant seem to get our other dvd player working.. it is hooked up by a HDMI cable. Could that make a difference? Very frustrating.. any help would be much appreciated.

  • Answer:

According to the Sony website the unit has 2 audio inputs - 1 optical and 1 coaxial digital. It has a built in DVD player - does it nor work? Have you hooked the HDMI from the Sony unit to the TV? Does it not show on your screen? Have you selected the correct input on the TV, sorry for jumping around but your question is rather confusing, if you could post further details of what is hooked up (and how) and whether it works or not.

Other answers

You need an optical cable to hook up the sound from the DVD player, the HDMI probably does not have audio pass through...
