Can you buy Transfer cables at best buy? And what do they do?

I found out you need HDMI cables for and HDTV which I am going to buy. Do I have to buy audio cables too?

  • Im buying an HDTV as a present. Since buying HD programing like COMCAST would be to expensive, I was going to buy a HD DVD player. I found out you need to buy HDMI cables, and while searching the website I was searching for the HDMI cable, it asked if I wanted to bundle them with audio cables. Do I need to buy audio cables? I thought the HDMI cables would transfer audio too.

  • Answer:

HDMI carries both audio and video signals in the same cable. If your TV supports HTMI connections, and you plan to use your TV's speakers one HDMI cable is all you need. You don't need separate cables for audio; your HD DVD player and HDTV support HDMI.

Other answers

Some units may not transfer audio through the HDMI cables and have coaxial or Optical cables for the audio.

If you plan to hook it up to a reciever it also carries lossless surround formats.

Yes - HDMI carries both audio and video .... to your TV. Many of us also run optical to our receivers and fire it up for serious DVD watching.
