How to get sound from hdmi channel to home cinema DVD player?

I cannot get sound from my sony bravia tv / home cinema set up?

  • I have recently puchased a Sony Home Cinea System the DAV-DZ660. I have an HDMI cable fitted from the DVD/Home Cinema Player to my TV but i am only getting sound and image when i play DVD's. I want to get my TV and PS3 working through it too. Help me please. P.s no just linking me to websites. I would rather have first hand advice. Cheers for now!

  • Answer:

You have 3 audio line ins on that unit. One analog, one coax, and one optical. Use a set of RCA cables (red and white ends) to hook your TV sound out to the units analog sound in. Use an optical cable to hook the digital optical out on the PS3 to the digital optical in on the unit. When you watch tv, switch to the first input on the cinema system that the TV is hooked to. When you play PS3, switch to the second input. You may need to crank the TV volume to hear it come out of the cinema system. Experiment. This is one of several ways to hook this up. Read the manual, it tells you haw to do all this.

Do you have your PS3 and other sources (i.e. cable, satellite, antenna) hooked up to the surround sound system? If you don't, how do you expect to get surround sound out of them? The TV is a one-way street when it comes to surround sound. It can send audio out, but only the 2-channel variety. The solution to your problem is to run the audio from your other sources through the surround sound system. The only way to get surround audio out of a PS3 is via HDMI or optical cable. I don't know what your connection options are for your "TV" source material.
