Does the MacBook play Blue Ray DVDs? or High Def DVDs?

Can Blu-Ray DVD PLAYERS play both... regular dvds, and HD dvds?

  • I'm debating whether to get a blu-ray dvd player, or a HD dvd player.. I know blu-ray dvd players can play special blu-ray discs, but can they also play HD dvds, and regular dvds?

  • Answer:

There is NO debate. Do NOT buy an HD-DVD player. The format is dead for good. Buy a Bluray player, and that is the end of it. At this point in time, there is never a good reason to go out and buy an HD-DVD player. If you buy one, you will be wasting every dollar you spend on it. You may as well just light the money on fire.

HD-DVD has been dead for over a year now. Blu-ray won the battle between the two HD video formats. So it's a bit of a moot point. Your only option now is to buy a DVD player, some of which upscale the standard definition image to a higher definition, or a Blu-ray player.

HD DVD is dead, so if you get a player, you can only get the HD titles that were made until the format folded over a year ago. If you want a high def player, get a blu ray player. It also plays all regular DVDs. Blu ray players do not play HD DVDs. However, there were a couple of universal players made by LG that played blu ray and HD DVD, they are rare these days since HD DVD died.
