How to connect woofer to my hi-fi?

To build woofer using old mini hifi system?

  • hi & hello i have a sony mini hifi system (mhc-gx 2000) with 100w rms with 6 ohm impedence with two speakers set.i have a sleek dvd player which i connect to the aux input of this sony player for audio .i want to make a woofer which can i connect to this setup for extra bass . t can i connect woofer directly to sony player or else i require i driver .can the sytem take load of another woofer.pls help me out

    Well, you should just get a powered subwoofer instead of trying to power a woofer from your system -far more practical, and it will sound a lot better too. You will need another RCA audio output to the powered sub, or you could use the powered subwoofer's amplifier to bypass the aux out from your DVD player's audio through the subwoofer's INs and OUTs to your Sony mini hi-fi system. Or, you could just use the powered subwoofer's speaker term- enals (high-level) to connect your regular speakers to and run the speakers and sub that way. Either way should work fine. Here are a list of powered subwoofers from about $100 on up for you to consider that would be very satisfying in my opinion... _ _ _ _ _

Most home speakers are 8ohms. If you did this you would probably fry your mini system. I would recommend buying a powered sub and try hooking it up through an output.

Don't bother making one. You can get powered subwoofers quite cheaply today. You need a powered subwoofer that has speaker leads, in and out. Some have RCA connectors only, but most will have speaker connectors. You connect the speaker leads from the mini system to the subwoofer, then run another set of speaker wires from the subwoofer to the Sony speakers. That's all you need.
