Why did the sound on my HDMI stop working?

Can i have hdmi and surround sound working at same time?

• On the tv i am planning to get, there is one HDMI port and then there are two groups of the red and white audio jacks. now the HDMI will be going from my ps3 to my tv and the one of the groups of audio jacks will be used for my surround sound system. I truly just want to know if i can have both of these things going at the same time, so that i can have surround sound and the high-def sound going at the same time while i am playing my games? Thanks

  I don't see why not (I don't have a ps3 to check). You do have some options in how to connect this. How many depends on the type of surround sound receiver. Like you said, you can connect the hdmi cable (carrying video only) from the ps3 to the tv and have separate audio going to the surround receiver. Use optical (TOSLINK) for the receiver's audio so you get digital surround sound. Make sure the ps3 is set to deliver surround. Red and white rca-type cables are for analog stereo. You can also have the hdmi (carrying both audio and video - again make sure it's set to deliver surround sound) go to the receiver (if it has the input), then have its hdmi out go to the tv. Some people do this if they have a few components connected to their receiver so they can have one cable going to the tv. This reduces clutter and is handy if you need to connect more than one hdmi cable to a tv with 1 port like yours. Another thing you can do is have the tv's digital audio-out go to the receiver. Edit: I checked around a bit and it seems you can't have audio-via-hdmi and use the optical audio at the same time (you can use the analog audio though). If you follow my suggested set-ups above, this won't matter anyway.
