Are samsung home theaters good?

    This particular home theater system is excellent. It converts regular DVD's to almost HD quality. But note that it is impossible to get true HD because the DVD's just don't provide enough content. Be sure to buy or rent Blu-Ray discs. The speaker technology is the best part. 7.1 speakers are the best for now. That means it has 7 speakers, the old system was 5.1 which was only 5 speakers. The more speakers, the more lifelike surround sound you get. Great price too.

Samsung is normally a good brand name for low end receivers. I personally prefer Yamaha and Sony for low to mid end electonics, but all three of them are fine. In regards to your selection, I personally would not recommend it. My biggest problem with the system is that the blu-ray player is built in. This can be a hassle if the receiver or player brakes. Also do not be sold on the 1000 watts, based on my audio experience that number alone is meaningless. I just purchased a 50watt sub that had better base than my 250W sub because the 50W had a bigger and better driver. If you have not done so look at some of the ratings I did not see ratings for this system on the link you provided. Also note: Most blu-ray players have built in up conversion, I would not consider this to be a special feature.

You can't buy a HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) if you want a good home theater. You need to spend at least $1500, to get anything of good quality. Take a look at Paradigm for speakers, and Denon for receivers.
