I have 2 big floor speakers, and 2 small wall mount speakers. Here is an image of my layout. Where do they go? I have 2 big floor speakers, and 2 small wall mount speakers. Here is an image of my layout. http://www.mikewarren.biz Where should I place my speakers. At the moment there is one floor speaker across the TV by the couch facing the TV. The other floor speaker on the right side of the room door facing the couch. Each wall mount speaker is mounted near the cealing in the corner by the front door, and in the corner above the corner of the couch facing each other. The two bigger floor speakers contain woofers, as well as "regular" speakers. the wall mount are only single speakers with no woofers. Problem is there really isen't room to have both big speakers in the front to be front speakers. wall mounted can be anywhere.

Answer:
move the speaker mounted from near the front door to above the tv facing away from the direction of the tv. Everything else looks fine for maximum sound effects and good quality reception.

Assuming that you spend most of your time on the couch, you want to get the front speakers pointed toward you. The human ear can hear from 20 to 20kHz. Bass notes and tones at the lower end of the spectrum are non-directional. As long as the speaker is in the room with you it's OK. This is the theory behind Bose systems with a bass box that can be hidden and small directional speakers that you mount on the wall or ceiling. Think of mid range and tweeters as if they were flashlights, you want them to point towards you for the best imaging. Go ahead and put on a movie and walk around your room....you'll see what I mean as you move in front of the speakers as opposed to being beside them. If you sit where all of the speakers are pointing toward you and are equal distances from you, you'll achieve the imaging that was intended when it was recorded. What will really make a difference is having a center channel speaker on top of the TV for voice soundtracks during movies. There isn't enough room on this page to explain this thoroughly, but I hope this condensed version helps.

Mike my friend it really depends on the shape of the room geometrically. The way the bass reflects off of the walls can be determined by trial and error meaning shift the floor speakers around until YOU find YOUR desired sound. As for the satellite speakers those will probably work out best facing the sofa from the sides of the sofa. I installed home and car audio when I was young and this was the best way to achieve optimum sound when the room or system wasn't designed for it. Good luck friend!
