Having trouble with installing a Phillips surround sound DVD player to a Toshiba TV?

okay, we are trying to install our new phillips surround sound system to our toshiba television that is using our new Dish Network VIP 922 DVR receiver. we are trying to "hook up" our receiver to the Toshiba TV and use the surround sound system as an audio input, how can we do this simply?
Answer:

Connect HDMI from DVR receiver and sound system to TV for video then optical cable from DVR receiver to sound system for TV channel audio.

without the model # of the PSS, I would say audio out from dvr to audio in to PSS, then hdmi from PSS to tv.all information is needed.
