My computer will not maintain an HDMI hookup with my projector, how can I fix this? I have a BenQ MW512 projector and a Dell Studio 1555. When I plug the HDMI cable into both items, the computer screen becomes projected through the projector perfectly for approx. 5 seconds. After that the projected image disappears and the projected image returns to the projectors default screen and it reads HDMI signal not found. BenQ support says that the computer's screen resolution is not compatible with the projector. My computer will only allow me to change the screen resolution to 1366/768, 1360/768, 1280/768, or 1280/720. I do not understand how the image can be displayed for 5 seconds and then all of a sudden become incompatible. The HDMI cable and projector work fine with my PS3 and Xbox360. Also my computer has been hooked up to several HDTV's via HDMI cable before. So I know that it is possible; but I am unable to figure out the solution. Thank you.

Answer:
You are probably getting a HDCP issue. This is a "digital handshake' between any two digital components. The reason for this is the RIAA corporation put in the HDCP so that people cannot copy digital material. Especially if they are 1.4 hdmi compliant components then you have to make sure you are using 1.4 compliant hdmi cables. But yes the other option is come out VGA for video, and analog, USB, or firewire (depending on the components you have) Kevin 40 years high end audio video specialist

Easy - don't use HDMI from the laptop to the projector - HDMI is VERY finicky about signal and resolution etc - use the VGA output from the computer instead (I hope you have one). All you need is a standard VGA cable: http://www.yyyescable.com/images/Product/PRODUCTPIC/BIG/Monitor/15PHDD-M-M-VGA-CABLE.jpg
