It depends on what connections you have. How many HDMI ports does your TV have? Does your receiver have HDMI ports? The easiest way to hook everything up is to connect everything with RCA cables, but this won't give the best performance. Generally, the best performance connectors are: 1 - HDMI (audio and video) 2- Digital audio (TOSLink or CoAx cables) 3- Component Video 4- Composite Video (RCA cables) 5- F-Connectors (like you used to use from your VCR to your TV) If your TV has enough HDMI ports, you would be best off connecting the Cable box to the TV with one HDMI cable, the DVD players with 2 other HDMI cables. Then connect the digital audio outs from your cable box and your DVD players to your receiver with the correct digital cables. If you don't have enough HDMI ports, you'll have to decide which connectors are best for you. If your TV has audio out, you can also connect that to the receiver, and just connect the DVD players and the cable box to the TV. Otherwise you'll have to connect the individual audio and video cables from the DVD players and the cable box to the TV and the receiver. So as the earlier poster pointed out, it all depends on which models you have and which cables you have. Both the TV and the receiver should have connection guides that show everything. If you can't find all your manuals, most manufacturers have manuals you can download from their websites, and most also have on-line tutorials on connecting your components. As for the power surge protector, that's easy. Just connect all the power cords into the surge protector, and plug the surge protector into the wall outlet.
