How do I get rid of subwoofer fuse?

Subwoofer fuse problem...?

  • my home subwoofer 1A 250v fuse blew out and i went to home depot to get a replacement. the guy gave me a 3A. I thought that he had been smart enough to give me the right fuse, but it wasnt. so when i installed it, the speakers gave a loud buzzing noise then lost all power after 10 seconds. i bought the right fuses at radioshack and now the sub wont even show any sign of life. any suggestions? or is the whole system shot to hell?

  • Answer:

There is an underlying problem here, and it isn't the fuse. Something caused the original fuse to blow. The sub's electronics can only handle 1A of power.... which is why it has a 1A fuse. Something caused the power to go over 1amp. When the amperage went over 1 Amp the fuse blew. Simply replacing the fuse, didn't fix what caused the first one to blow... there was still more than 1Amp going through your system. Putting the 3 amp fuse in alowed at least 3 amp of power to go into your sub.... which is 2 amps more than it is designed to handle. This fried the sub. The sub probably just has one or two components... probably a capacitor.. that is blown. I'm sure the system is toast, but if you take it to an electronics repair shop, they might be able to fix it, but there is also the possibility that it will cost more to fix it than it would cost to get a new one.
