How to connect woofer to my hi-fi?

How do i connect my sub to my Marantz PM-66SE Hi Fi Amplifier?

  • I have a Marantz amp PM-66E "ken ishiwata" signature. I know its a great amp and it has fantastic reviews etc but i cant adjust Bass or Treble.... i like my music with a Bass edge to it and although it makes my fav tunes sound amazing, i want more bass. I figure getting a sub woofer is the next step. I am not sure whether to buy a "Passive" SUB. or if i can use an "Active" SUB. Also i am unsure how it would connect to my amp..... the connections on the back of amp are: AUX L.R TUNER L.R CD L.R TAPE1 IN AND OUT. TAPE 2 IN AND OUT. PHONO. THEN R AND L SPEAKER PORTS 1 PAIR. 8-16 OHMS. Can i use the tape in out to connect a sub? or do i have to wire it in with the 2 Wharfedale 2180's? I use my Hifi with my Pc and listen to Spotify pretty much and nothing else. Any help would be great!

  • Answer:

That is a nice integrated. I feel the problem is not coming from the amplifier but more the speakers you are driving. A subwoofer is not an option for that particular amplifier. You would need an active sub and some sort of audio signal out that the marantz does not have. That is a 50 watt per channel into 8 ohm speaker amplifier which is a descent amount of power but if your speaker is not sensitive enough you will be left with all that power going to waste. That amp is capable of 20hz to 20000khz range so there should be way more than enough bass on the low end of that spectrum. Take a look at the sensitivity level of the speakers you are using a make sure they are over 90db. If not that is your issue and its speaker shopping time.
