When did the Blu-ray player come out?

Do I need an AV receiver or a HDMI cable for my BluRay player?

  • Hi, So I bought a BluRay player today. I haven't had a DVD player in years- I've been watching and downloading movies from iTunes. The bluray didnt come with any extra wires. Do I need an AV receiver or a HDMI cable? Or do I need both?

  • Answer:

HDMI cable though its weird your player didn't come with a cable. You should check your manual and deduce whether a cable should be provided under the contents section, it most likely should and you would save money to point that out to the store if a cable should be present

You are going to need an HDMI cable to connect it to your HDTV. If you want to have surround sound then you need to have a receiver and a set of speakers. Those home theater in a box are not very reliable and flexible for adding anything to them. You can also use a sound bar. If you do not have an HDTV, then check and see what it provides for a connection. Hope this will help you out.

You don't really need a HDMI cable unless your blu-ray player only has a HDMI port. But without a HDMI cable you will not see the blu-ray in full 1080P. If your blu-ray player have AV (yellow/red/white) then you can use that, But it will only broadcast in 480i.
