How do I hook up my surround sound system to TV to PS3?

I want to hook my PS3 up to my surround sound system and my TV.?

  • The problem is my surround sound system doesn't have a HDMI 'in' port. Is it possible to get good quality sound from the PS3 through the surround sound system i have?

    plug the HDMI cable directly from your PS3 to your TV then you can do a couple different things: your ps3 can send the audio through one of the fallowing to your reciever just choose the appropriate cable for you plug it in and the goto the audio output settings on the ps3 and switch it to the correct output. HDMI Optical Digital Audio input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI obviously you wont be using HDMI since that is connected to your tv. Optical Digital sometimes the cable is also called toslink the last category is the red white connector that your ps3 came with in the box. the only problem with the red/white cable option is that it is only 2 channel and wont give you surround sound so if that is what you are looking for then you need to get an optical cable or a reciever that will take an HDMI input.

Send the video from the PS3 to the TV via HDMI or component video cables. Send the audio from the PS3 to the HT via RCA (for two channel audio) or optical (for surround sound) cables. Set the PS3 video and audio output settings accordingly.
