What is the best Blu Ray player to buy?

What are the reasons many dont wish to buy a Blu-Ray player and instead buy an upscaling DVD player?

  • cant a Blu Ray player play dvds as well as Blu rays? if just decide that Blu ray discs are too expensive for now and will wait for prices to drop? how likely and how much more expensive are blue ray discs than dvds and , why? thanks for your answers!

  • Answer:

Typically Blu-ray players cost more than twice as much as DVD players and Blu-ray movies cost twice as much as DVDs. If you are viewing on a screen that's 32 inches or less, few people can tell the difference. Give it 3 years and they'll bring out Pink-ray with 3D and smellivision and we'll be able to buy old-fashioned Blu-ray at bargain prices.

Yes a Blu Ray player will play both DVD and Blu Ray disc, many players are network capable as well so they can stream audio and video. The players do cost more and new release titles cost more than DVDs. You can find many non new release titles from 7 to 15 dollars on blue ray so they are still a bargain when compared to a trip to the movies. As far as the format being dead I would have to disagree. There will always be consumers that want to treat their eyes and ears to quality video and audio. As for me I will pass on the highly compressed downloaded and streamed music and video. The only reason to have an I Pod is it is compact and convenient, I will never waist my money for one of the little pieces of junk with crappy ear buds.

the drunken fool is right ,but may be the compact digital card will be used in place of discs ,they are Instant play back and a lot smaller . am surprised this is not happening more ,there is a slight movement this way with some companies selling memory sticks with security systems on them and some with albums

A blu-ray player is more expensive than an upscaling dvd player. It will also have cinavia added as part of the blu-ray standard, meaning all those dodgy dvd's they have bought down at the market will not work. Other than that, Blu-ray is a dying breed. everything is download now.

Why sell content once when you can sell the same content under different formats? When I got "Star Wars" on Betamax, VHS, DVD, BluRay I paid a premium price every time though I got the same content. (Actrually I've never bought Star Wars on any format)

Yes, Blu-ray players can play regular DVDs. Blu-ray movies are usually about $5-$10 more expensive than the DVD version of movies.
