Is it possible to watch HDTV through a Blu Ray player?

How can I watch Blu ray using a laptop, HDMI cable and an HDTV?

  • I have a Dell 1330 that I've hooked up to my Sony HDTV using an HDMI cable. I get video, but the quality isn't that great? I've played around with the resolution on the laptop but still looks like regular cable. The file I am trying to watch is a .ts file. My laptop does not have a blu ray drive. Also, I've tried to watch streaming HD videos and the quality looks pretty plain. I use VLC player.

  • Answer:

The Dell 1330 comes with two video cards: Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (standard) NVIDIA GeForceTM Go 8400M GS with 128MB dedicated DDR3 graphics memory (optional) The latter of the two is primed for what youre looking to do with your HDTV. If you have the standard Intel integrated graphics card, your picture quality will be on par with mediocre cable. The program that you are using is excellent for this type of set up, but the quality lives and dies on the graphics card. I hoped I was able to be of some assistance. Good luck : )
