My dvd player wont work?

Why wont my sony dvd player work with DVD's from columbia pictures?

  • The player is a sony progressive scan dvd/vcr combo not more than a year old and plays about 95% of my titles. The player itself says loading, then it says menu, yet nothing happens on the screen except the blue loading screen. I then have to turn it off and back on again to eject the disk. If I put in any other disk it plays fine. Yes the disk is clean and i've tried 2 brand new copies of the movie one wide screen and one standard. The movie is Monster House by columbia pictures. The disc also doesn't load in my PS2 (although not many dvds do) however both disks play in another dvd player I have, made by Samsung. I've noticed the same thing seems to happen with other titles from columbia pictures. I've also given it a good 10 mins to load and still nothing. Any ideas as to what is going on?

  • Answer:

Nothing specific. Some players are notorious for being sensitive to minor issues with disks, while other play almost anything. It sounds like your Sony is fussy. You have done all the right things, so I'd suggest taking the disk back. It's possible that columbia have a bad lot of disks and maybe a copy from another lot will work OK. In the meantime carefully document the problem and try reading various forum threads (e.g. search using terms like 'Sony+xyz (your model number)+problem' or "Monster House"+problem) for your Sony player or for Columbia disks or for Monster House). If this is any type of general issue you should find reference to it. Good luck
