How to hook up a Dvd recorder?

How can I hook up dvd recorder,tv,vcr, and direct tv dvr to a receiver?

  • I hooked up the panasonic dvd recorder output to the dvd in on the SONY receiver, direct tv dvr output to the tv/sat input,tv video input to video out monitor, vcr is hooked up from video/audio in to video 1 out and video /audio output on the vcr to input on video 1. I can't figure out how to get my dvd recorder to record.Do I have to hook it up to something else or another way? I also have a dvd express capture box,I want to hook up.

  • Answer:

Okay, assuming that the dvr also is acting as your satellite box, I think you need to plug the direct tv dvr output to the DVD RECORDER input, rather than plugging it into the reciever directly. Then, you can plug the DVD RECORDER OUTPUT into the reciever as you have it. Remember this principle, for dvd recorders to record, they need to have cable/satellite input directly plugged in, or else they can't recieve a signal to record. Which is why I'm seriously hoping you're not using the vcr to record anything, just watch old videotapes with it ;) Also, this means that you'll have to turn on your direct tv dvr in order to record on your dvd recorder. And it also means you'll have to turn on your dvd recorder whenever you want to watch tv. But this way, you'll be able to record onto the dvd recorder. Hope this has helped!
