Check if ur dvd player has an optical cable output and if ur stereo has the input, these will usually be located at the back of the appliance. If so this is the best way to do it as this will give you the best sound quality. You will need to get a optical cable, these can be found at any shops that sells tv, stereos etc.

don t that is an old stereo Receiver you need a new surround sound Receiver That system was state of the art when the VCR was new

Unfortunately that receiver won't do "Surround Sound" because it's a Stereo receiver. Surround Sound describes systems that are 5.1 or higher (5 or more speakers plus a sub). Stereo describes a 2 channel system, i.e. Left & Right. You've got a L/R receiver. You can hook up L/R RCA cables to any of the inputs on the back but you'll only get processing for 2 channels. The receiver has 2 sets of speaker outputs, so you can hook up front and rear speakers which will give you a more Surround Sound feel, but it won't really be Surround Sound.
