How to stop a thump sound from a surround sound system sub.?

i have a home theatre system has 4 tower speakers, one center, and a reciever with amp. and the sub on the bottom of the reciever. everytime i start it, it makes one loud thump sound from the sub. and the amp. power indicator stays high. and its connected to a standard dvd player. i think its causing becuz of an interference but not sure. so pleez help

Answer:
mine does that to its because when then cross over receives power it immediately gets rid of it and the only way it can go away is through the speaker. so just keep it plugged in.
