Why do I have green static on my tv when playing a dvd?

No sound from home theater system speakers while playing TV, but works when playing DVD/Blu-Rays?

  • The dvd/blu-ray/CD player works, the speakers all work with a DVD or a CD. It only came with a video cable . I bought the audio (red/white) cable, digital audio coaxial cable (yellow) and an optical cable. The video works with either cord, but the audio does not come from the tv out of the surround sound speakers. The sound comes out of the speakers when using the dvd player, but not when watching regular TV, I have changed the TV's setting to external speakers but still get no sound. What am I doing wrong? • Answer:

I'm sorry but you bought a crappy DVD player with attached speakers. It is not a real 'home theater' system because it does not let you connect other 5.1 sources (like your HDTV or BluRay or game or HD cable/sat box, etc) Those systems sometimes have a left/right analog input. If your TV has a left/right analog output - you can connect 2 RCA cables for stereo. But that samsung .. only offers optical output for real 5.1. Your TV is much better than your home theater system. Sorry - you are one of 20+ people here per week that ask this same question and the answer is always the same: Those $199-$299 systems are not designed to hook other things up to them.
