How can I connect my Blu-ray to the Internet?

How can i get my blu ray player to connect to the internet?

  • I just got my Toshiba Blu Ray player for christmas. It said it was "wifi ready" idk why but you have to connect it to the internet. My house has wifi but the blu ray player doesnt have wifi. you have to plug the internet straight in the back yet my internet router is in a whole different area. Is there some way to make my bluray player connect to the wifi somehow? is there something i can buy where the internet is supposed to plug in to make it wireless? please help because plugging in the internet with a cable isnt an option!

  • Answer:

When you buy a Wi-Fi ready Blu-ray player (instead of one with Wi-Fi already built in), you have to buy a USB Wi-Fi adapter made by the player's manufacturer to get it to connect to your Wi-Fi network. These adapters are overpriced, because there is no competition, only the manufacturer can make a compatible USB adapter for your player. You don't need to connect the player to the internet, it will work without it, but it won't support streaming viewing services such as Netflix. It also won't support BD-Live features on a Blu-ray disc, but I have yet to hear about a worthwhile use of that technology. You can still upgrade the player's firmware if needed using a USB drive or burned DVD, though doing it through Wi-Fi would be easier. If I were you, I would return the player and get one with Wi-Fi built in. This article explains why in better detail: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20029315-1.html .
