How do i get sound on my xbox/monitor?

How do I get sound from all 5 speakers on my 5.1 surround?

  • Hi guys, I have a surround sound 5.1 system set up in my bedroom, it's blue ray and I also have a sat reciever hooked up aswell. I am using the hdmi cable and the optical cable for sound, it goes from my blue ray player to the sat. The sound works fine, on normal sat tv stations i get sound from all the speakers, when i switch to hd channels the speakers change to the proper 5.1 sound format, where the back speakers pick up different sounds and what not. My dad just bought a 60 inch tv and a 5.1 surround system when i went to hook it up for him I set it up the same way(I think) but he is only getting sound from the 2 front speakers when watching normal sat tv channels, when he watches hd he gets the true 5.1 surround. How do I get sound from all 5 speakers while watching normal sat channels like I do in my bedroom? Is there something i've hooked up wrong or is there some feature/setting i'm suppose to change? I've been at it for 3 hours now lol, any help would be nice.

  • Answer:

Keep in mind that not all tv program have surround sound, only those program with the Dolby Digital Logo will have surround sound. That is the reason that you are not going to get surround sound. The back speakers are for effect sound. You only get 5.1 on DVD and Blu ray with 5.1 to 7.1 and some video games. Some receiver will have a sound effect for you to hear sound on all speakers and they are the true surround sound as we know it. Hope this will help you out.
