How should I connect my wires to my amp?

How do I connect a speaker to a vintage pa amp w/ screw type terminals, do I wrap both wires around the screw?

  • Answer:

You either wrap the wires (tightly) around the terminal, and screw the knob down tight, or in some models, when you back out the screw knob, you'll notice a hole drilled through the shaft of the screw. You can put the wire through that, if you have it.

you can but its bad. i would terminate the ends of the cables with spades to protect against corrosion which can cause bad sound. i use these on my hifi system and they work great http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=1062

Get some crimp on spade connectors from Radio Shack or some place like that. Unless its a high end unit they will do just fine. They have the nice gold onesand the guys there can even tell you how to put them on.

I don't mean to insult your intelligence. Just making sure since you speak of "the screw" (singular). You won't hook the positive and the negative to the same screw. One of the screws should be labeled "ground." This is the one to which you hook up the negative wire.
