Why won't my computer speakers work on my TV?

Can I use computer speakers with a headphone plug-in on my TV that doesn't have a headphone port?

  • I have an LG TV that I am trying to use computer speakers on. Everyone says the speakers would work on my tv if it had a headphone IN, but it doesn't. The only OUT port my tv has is an Optical digital audio OUT. Is there anything I can do to make them work on my tv? I'm trying not to spend a lot of money. If there is some sort of converter, a link to the web-page would be greatly appreciated.

    You can not use it on your tv, that is why it is called computer speakers. TV today only provide you an optical audio output. This is a digital signal with multi channel sound that has to be decoded by a receiver, home theater in a box with an optical audio input or a sound bar. Hope this will help you out.

Since your TV only has optical digital outputs you need something that will take the digital audio and convert it back to analog stereo. This unit will work to do that. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Audio-Analog-Converter/dp/B0013LWK3A However, in order to hook up computer speakers, you will need to convert the RCA stereo jacks to 3.5mm jack.
