Can I connect my sharp blu ray player to a samsung home theater system?

How can I connect a blu ray player to an existing DVD home theater system?

  • I own a Malata DAV-3100 DVD/Receiver combo and I recently bought a Samsung BD-D5700 blu ray player. I want to connect the blu ray player to the existing receiver because I don't have an HDTV yet so I don't mind not having 1080p picture. I looked into similar questions and the answer I kept seeing was to purchase an optical audio cable to connect the blu ray player to the receiver, but that doesn't seem to work. I was hoping somebody else has faced a similar situation and can walk me through the setup.

  • Answer:

You have 2 problems: * Your TV wont accept HD signals from the BluRay player * Your 'combo' unit wont accept HD video, wont accept optical for audio, etc. You basically have incompatible equipment: standard def TV, standard def DVD player (not a AV Receiver) and a High Def BluRay player that does not offer standard def connections. It's time to upgrade your TV first - then you can use HDMI to see the BluRay player and apps.
