RCA or aka patch cords from your tv out ( either composite or component ) white and red.... to aux audio in white and red.

I do this all the time. If you have a VCR, then just get a pair of stereo RCA cables (the standard ones, which are used for everything you jack into your stereo amp). Then you watch TV through the VCR, with the VCR plugged into your stereo as "aux" or "video". Your TV might also have an output jack on the back, in which case the VCR would not be necessary. I am sorry if I did not answer your question specifically enough, I do not know what you have for equipment there.

well first things first-in order to get the impression you are sitting in a theatre you will need an amp that can decode a standard stereo line feed into multi-channel output offering several channels of descrete sound (this is the normal theatre standard-called DTS (digital theatre systems). in a normal amp you would not get this-just surround sound. if your tv has phono (rca) outputs in the back then it's just a case of connecting these to the auxilliary input of your amplifier (some amps have a "tv" input specifically for this purpose) if not some tv sets can output stereo sound from the scart socket provided the scart is two way. if you are pushed you can output through the headphone jack but you must first turn down the volume of the tv before firing the amp up.

If you are using just a television without a cable or satellite box you should be able to connect your television using a standard set of analog stereo RCA cables. I would use a good basic set of cables like the Monster Cable I300 series for outstanding economical performance: http://www.wildwestelectronics.net/in250sercab.html If you are using a high definition television, it may also have a digital audio output, usually it is an optical audio output on most HDTV's, you can also use this to get sound digitally to your music system. If you music system is a home theater system and has a optical digital input, an high quality optical cable would be remmended such as the Monster M1000: http://www.wildwestelectronics.net/inligmserul.html Using this cable will allow you to not only get the best audio performance from your stereo system, but if it is also a home theater, it will be the only way your system will be able to decode broadcast that are presented in Dolby Digital. The above recommendations also apply if you are using a cable or satellite box. If either is a high definition box, you will have the optical outputs needs for the better quality connection you are looking for. Another hint for you is that if you want to listen to just music using the music channels from your television or other source device on your home theater. Make sure that you set your digital signal processing mode on your receiver to "stereo" for the best muscial sound. Many people forget to do this and then the sound ends up not being so good for plain old music because there system is still in one of the multi-channel home theater modes. Hope this is helpful.
