What to clean a plasma TV with?

What is the best practice to hook devices (DVD, Satallite, VCR), Plasma TV & home theater receiver.?

  • 1) Should I be running seperate cables to the plasma from DVD, Satallite receiver and VCR (I've to run component cables from DVD & sat receiver - and composite vedio cable from VCR because thats is what the output of my devices) and audio cables from these devices to Yamaha HTR6050 receiver. 2) The 2nd option is to run component and composite cables from devices to the reciever and then run single cable from Yamaha receiver to plasma TV. My plasma tv has one 29-pin DVI input where as Yahama receiver has 1 HDMI output (I'm assuming I can find HDMI to DVI cable ...) In this case I think I've to run seperate audio cable from yamaha receiver to TV and then from receiver to home theater speakers. Has anybody done research on such things earlier? Which option will give me better picture quality? My TV is 50'' plasma with native resolution of 1366x768 Thanks a bunch for reply.

If I understand properly your receiver upconverts any incoming video to HDMI ,correct? Based on the information you provided this would be more convenient for you, and makes the receiver the hub of your system. Consult your manual first but run all video audio connection to the receiver and make your TV a monitor. good luck

You have several choices to make: 1. Is video quality paramount? If so, then the more direct the connection, the better. Meaning, directly from component to tv. 2. Do you have enough inputs on the tv to do direct connections from all the source components. If yes, great, if no, then you'll have to go through the receiver. 3. Is convenience the most important thing? Then connect to the receiver. 4. If convenience is the most important thing, are you willing to turn the receiver on EVERY TIME you want to watch tv? Just to catch the weather for 5 minutes in the morning? Personally, I connect my main STB both directly to the tv on one input, so I can just turn the tv alone on to catch the news, weather, etc., and I also run audio to the prepro for serious movie watching (for best audio quality). All my video sources connect directly to the tv.

Your sat provider can give the best configuration for you I would call them or check their website: The sat provider I use has a great website with the diagrams for hooking up hdtv and additional equipment: when I call in they have their own department for HD TV tech support:

It all depends on your preferences. Do you want/need the receiver on at all times? (are there people in your household that do?) If everything is together, hook everything up to the TV, the receiver to the audio out of the TV and you're set. If your TV is removed from the components then going though the receiver will be best (one long cable). If you invest in cables go the receiver way, they usually have more connections than the TV, leaving room for expansion. CONFIRM THAT THE RECEIVER UP-CONVERTS YOUR COMPONENT SIGNALS! Good luck.

Don't look too close!

Here's my suggestion: Hook up everything to your receiver. Then get a HDMI to DVI cable or if you are using component cables, you might as well use the component input of your TV. Most people cannot tell the difference between the video output from a HDMI/DVI cable from the video output of a component cable. I am not familiar with the Yamaha receiver but make sure your receiver can upconverts composite, s-video, component to HDMI signal. OR composite, s-video to component video. This is very important. Yes you do have to wire up your speakers as well.
