How can i create a media center without placing my pc next to my tv?

I want to create a media center but do not want to place the pc next to the tv as the tv is in the family/living room and I eed my pc for work. Is there any way i can create the media center/home theater network without moving my pc?

You can use Apple TV to stream via your home network, as well as to store the media. The 160GB version is $399.
