Why wont the sound on my tv work?

Why won't my Surround Sound work when watching the TV?

  • I have just bought a LG HX806PH 3d Blu Ray Home Theatre system and it will not play the tv through the speakers. Watching a DVD or Blu Ray is fine just not when watching TV. It is connected to the TV via a HDMI cable and there is nothing else connected to the tv. The TV is a LG Plasma Please help! Thanks

It sounds like you don't have the TV connected back to the HT system. Seems like all you have is an HDMI from the HDMI Out on the HT system to the HDMI In on the TV. You're going to need a connection from an output on the TV back to an input on the HT system. If the TV has an HDMI out you may be able to use that assuming the HTiB has an input. You may also have an optical (this is more likely) output on the TV which you could connect back to an input on the HT system. The problem with HTiB systems is that they have very limited connectivity but hopefully yours will have the connections you need. Actually connectivity is just one of about four million things wrong with HTiB systems but that's beside the point. mk

Have you tried turning it off and on again? And if that doesn't work it's probably because most (or all) are produced in stereo or mono, but not 5.1 or 5.0 surround sound.

Most of those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them or upgrading. Your tv should only have an optical audio output. This is a digital signal that has multi channel sound and has to be decoded by a Dolby Digital decoder. If your home theater has an optical audio input then connect an optical audio cable from the tv to the home theater. If not then you will not be able to use it to hear tv sound. Keep in mind that only those tv program with the Dolby digital logo will have surround sound. Those home theater in a box are only designed for you to watch a movie in surround sound. Hope this will help you out.

Probably need a 2way male patch cord connected to the audio out from tv go audio in to receiver or a tv source via video or tv sound hope this helps

Connect optical cable or red & white cables from cable box or TV to Home Theater System for TV channel audio.
