Xbox360 has no signal to my TV?

Is the Xbox360 or TV to blame?

  • I have had my Xbox360 connected to my somewhat new (I've had it for nearly a year now) HD TV. I bought a generic HDMI cable to go along with it, and I've had no problems for the most part. One recurring problem, which has happened three times before, is that the Xbox360 loads and the TV thinks that it's a DVI and not a HDMI connection. This means I have a normal HD picture, but no sound because DVI does not support that. I have never changed the cables I've been using, I've not changed the picture settings on the TV nor the Xbox. The problem happens spontaneously and seemingly randomly. Rebooting the TV/Xbox does not work for the most part, though if I do this multiple times it eventually boots with the correct HDMI setting with sound. I'd like to know how to fix this problem by dealing directly with either the TV or '360.
