Connecting Blu Ray player via laptop?
-
I have an LG BD560 blu ray player and have it set up in a non-networked area of the house, i have a laptop connected to my network wirelessly and require the bluray to use the laptop as a bridge to my internet connection. Any ideas on how to go about this? its a bit awkward i know but the only way i have of doing it Additional Details as the format is still in it's early stages some bluray releases mess up without being able to access BDLive, this is why I need it to connect via my laptop, it has an ethernet port and the abillity to access youtube so it is not entirely a standalone player

Answer:
You're going to have to give the Blu-Ray player an IP address manually and similarly set up a manual address on the Ethernet port on the laptop. These should both be addresses in the same subnet as your router is issuing in DHCP. So, for example, if your router is issuing addresses in the 192.168.x.x range then give the laptop's Ethernet port 192.168.0.98 and the Blu Ray player 192.168.0.99. Set the subnet mask of both to 255.255.0.0. Give both the address of your wireless router as the router address. Now, in Windows, go to Control Panel, Network and under 'advanced' choose 'Bridge Connections' and follow the wizard to bridge your Ethernet and Wireless connections. Might be simpler and more easily done just to buy an Wireless extender that's compatible with your wireless router and plug the Blu-Ray player into that. Means you don't have to have a laptop doing network dogwork. Something like http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=2375 for example.
